Your Roof – Options & Upgrades
The roof is one of the most important parts of any garden building, as it protects everything inside from the elements and plays a big part in the overall lifespan of the shed.
At Watkins Timber Buildings, we offer a range of roofing options depending on the style of building you choose, your location, and how you plan to use it.
Some roofs come as standard on certain models, while others are available as optional upgrades for customers who want extra durability, a longer lifespan, or a more modern finish.
Below you’ll find a guide to the different roofing options we offer: polyester-based felt, steel box profile roofing, and rubber roofing, along with the benefits of each.
POLYESTER BASED ROOFING FELT
This is our gold standard roofing felt, and it comes as standard on all of our buildings.
At first glance, it looks similar to traditional green mineral felt, but it is far superior in performance. Polyester-based felt is much more flexible and durable, meaning it is far less likely to crack or split over time.
Whilst we can’t guarantee an exact lifespan on any felt roof (as this depends on location, weather exposure, and surrounding trees), what we can say is this:
Polyester-based felt is proven to last significantly longer than standard green mineral felt — often up to 10 times longer.
It’s a reliable, long-lasting option and one of the reasons our buildings stand the test of time.
RUBBER ROOF (only available on our pent roof buildings.)
Rubber roofing is one of the most durable and long-lasting roofing options available, and is a popular choice for customers wanting a clean, modern finish with minimal maintenance.
All of our rubber roofs have an estimated lifespan of approximately 40 years.
HOW IT'S FITTED
Our rubber roofs are fitted on top of a tongue and groove (T&G) timber roof, creating a strong and solid base.
A specialist adhesive is used to securely bond the rubber membrane into place, ensuring a tight, weatherproof finish.
To complete the installation, timber weather boards are fitted around the sides, front, and back of the roof to neatly secure the edges and provide extra protection.
